No doubt everyone seems to be doing yoga but is it really that beneficial? The answer is YES. Yoga has been practiced for over 5000 years and it truly has many health benefits not just physical but psychological and spiritual. The obvious physical benefits are muscle strength, tone, flexibility, and improvement balance and posture. Different poses lend themselves to different areas of the body that may be tight or need strengthening. It has been shown to reduce chronic back pain, weight, and indirectly improve diabetes, heart disease and asthma. Yoga also allows for relaxation and calming of the mind. Many studies have documented the health benefits of yoga most recently one study noted improvement in sleep which is so important. I recommend starting at a basic level and don’t be intimidated by all the complicated poses it takes most people a long time to learn some of them. Most importantly try different classes to find the right teacher and community for you. And remember it is about the mind, body and spirit.
